Press play on life again.
Dr. Dan Maggio has been the chiropractor on Gordon Road for 26 years. Chiropractic care, StemWave therapy and injury rehab in Wilmington, NC, without drugs or surgery.
The chiropractor Wilmington keeps sending its friends to.
Dr. Dan Maggio grew up in the Finger Lakes region of upstate New York, earned his Doctorate of Chiropractic at 23, and has spent the last 26 years on Gordon Road putting Wilmington backs, necks and shoulders back where they belong.
He studied music before he studied the spine, and he still plays around town. That ear for detail shows up in the exam room: he listens to the whole story before he touches anything, then explains what he found in plain language. You leave knowing what is wrong, what he is doing about it, and how long it should take.
Families come in for the first adjustment and stay for twenty years. Kids grow up on the table. Grandparents come in to keep gardening. Weekend surfers come in so they can paddle out again Saturday.

Dr. Dan examines how your spine moves before he adjusts a single joint. Where he finds a segment stuck out of position, he restores it by hand, which takes pressure off the nerve and lets the muscle around it let go. Most patients feel the difference walking out to the parking lot.

A handheld applicator sends focused electrohydraulic waves into the injured tissue. That mild cellular stress tells your body to repair the area, the same way exercise tells a muscle to get stronger. Nothing gets injected and nothing gets cut. Sessions run five to ten minutes.

Whiplash hides. You feel stiff for a day, then two weeks later you cannot turn your head backing out of a driveway. Dr. Dan examines you, documents what the crash did, and rehabilitates the joints and soft tissue on a schedule that fits the injury. Bring your claim number to the first visit.

Your nervous system runs through your spine. When a vertebra stops moving the way it should, it irritates the nerve beside it, and the muscle around it tightens to protect the area. Pain, stiffness and reduced range of motion follow. An adjustment restores that motion so the nerve stops getting pinched and the body can regulate itself again.
Three: Diversified, Gonstead and Chiropractic Biophysics. Diversified is the classic hands-on adjustment. Gonstead is a precise, single-segment approach. Chiropractic Biophysics works on the overall alignment of your posture. Which one you get depends on what the exam shows, and it can change as you improve.
That depends on how long the problem has been there and how much of it is joint versus soft tissue. A recent strain can settle in a few visits. A spine that has been compensating for fifteen years takes longer. Dr. Dan gives you a plan with a defined stretch of visits and reassesses as you go rather than keeping you on an open-ended schedule.
No. Some patients come in, get out of pain, and go back to their lives. Others choose a maintenance visit every few weeks the same way they keep up with the dentist, because holding the correction feels better than chasing the flare-up. Both are fine. The choice is yours, and nobody guilts you either way.
Most people describe it as relief. The adjustment itself takes a second and the pressure is brief. If your muscles have been guarding an area for a while, you may feel sore afterward the way you would after a workout. Tell Dr. Dan if anything feels sharp and he adjusts his approach.
It restores motion to a joint that stopped moving, which takes mechanical pressure off the nerve and lets the muscle around it release. Patients report less pain, better range of motion, easier sleep and fewer headaches. Where healing has stalled, StemWave gets added to speed the tissue side of the repair.
No. That sound is gas releasing inside the joint capsule, the same as cracking a knuckle. It has nothing to do with whether the adjustment worked. Plenty of effective adjustments are silent, especially the low-force ones used on kids and older patients.
Newborns can be checked. Birth puts real strain on a baby's neck, and kids collect falls, backpacks and sports hits from there. Pressure for an infant is light, about what you would use to test a ripe tomato. Dr. Dan has adjusted three generations of the same Wilmington families.
